Dr. Light is a board certified general and critical care surgeon in Iowa. He is trained in Internal Medicine, General Surgery, Surgical Critical Care, and Burns and Trauma at the Beth Israel-Deaconess Medical Center and Washington Hospital Center. He also received a Masters in Clinical Investigation from the University of Iowa School of Public Health.
During his academic career at Washington Hospital Center-Georgetown University Hospital in Washington DC, and later at University of Iowa, he published 25 peer reviewed research articles. Dr. Light received and served as a mentor on multiple basic science, trauma, and burn injury NIH, industry, and intramural grants. He was a member of regional and national committees, and reviewed numerous books and research articles. He has given numerous national and international talks on burn and trauma care. His publications cover a broad range of topics including animal basic science research, clinical research, and outcomes research using 'big data.'
